Two Birds Foundation is a 501 (c)(3) tax deductible nonprofit organization dedicated to rescuing surplus food and delivering it with care to those who need it most. Our name reflects our mission: one act of giving that solves two problems at once — reducing food waste and nourishing our neighbors. In other words - feeding two birds with one scone.
As a young organization taking root in 2026, we believe that communities are fed not just by donations, but by showing up — with safe, sustainably packaged meals, a trained volunteer network, and a deep commitment to dignity in every delivery.
We partner with local businesses, individuals, and grant-makers to fund and coordinate food rescue operations. From insulated carriers to our easy volunteer portal, every piece of our work is designed with care — for the people we serve and for the planet.
Food rescue is a direct response to one of the most glaring disconnects of our time: we live in a world where food waste and hunger exist side by side, and neither has to. Globally, up to 40% of all food produced is wasted — more than 1.3 billion tons every year — making food the single largest material found in landfills. The environmental stakes are significant: food production consumes 10% of the U.S. energy budget, 50% of all land, and 80% of all freshwater, yet the EPA estimates that over 97% of food waste generated ends up in landfills, where it generates a substantial share of U.S. methane emissions — a greenhouse gas 21 times more potent than carbon dioxide. Meanwhile, 1 in 5 people in the United States go hungry every day. According to the United Nations, if we recovered all the food that is lost or wasted, there would be enough to feed every hungry person on earth four times over. Closer to home, Feeding America estimates that approximately 1 in 7 people in metro Atlanta experience food insecurity. The USDA puts the national food waste figure at 30–40% of the entire U.S. food supply annually, with prepared meals among the most commonly discarded items — largely because most organizations lack a reliable redistribution partner. Two Birds exists to be that partner. Through the power of collective action, we believe this is a problem we can solve together.

Whether you're an individual who wants to give, a company looking to make a meaningful community impact, or a funder supporting food security in our region — there's a place for you here.
